It’s Valentine’s Day!!! A man-made holiday, a day that’s supposed to be filled with lots of love. This is a day where people show each other how much they mean to someone, how much they care about someone, how special they are to them etc. I have to say I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day, but… only when I’m in a relationship! Don’t judge me; I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks like this.
Quick story. I went to Walgreens to pick up some pictures I had ordered. When I drove into the parking lot, every parking spot was taken. I walk inside to see lines of people which is not normal at this Walgreen’s. This is usually a stop, hurry up, get what you need, and get out type store. Who waits in lines at Walgreen’s?
So I get up to the counter and ask for my order. I tell the sales associate “man, you guys are busy today.” She replied, “Yes, everyone is getting their Valentine’s Day gifts.” I say “Well, I don’t have a Valentine, so yea!” She then starts to laugh, and for a split second, I didn’t know whether to get mad or laugh with her, so I just gave a smirk and walked off.
I get in my car and start to process my thoughts. I had to make a decision, do I get mad, do I get sad, or do I just keep it pushing. Guess what I chose?
I decided to keep it pushing and not allow myself to get in a sad or mad state of mind because I reminded myself of whose I was. I may not have a boyfriend, fiancé, or husband right now, but what I do have is that AGAPE love that man can’t give me; only Jesus can.
“Agape love: unconditional love that is always giving and impossible to take or be a taker. It devotes total commitment to seeking your highest best no matter how anyone may respond. This form of love is totally selfless and does not change whether the love given is returned or not. This is the original and only true form of love.”
When I started to reflect back on God’s love for me, it literally filled my heart with joy. Even when something is missing from your life, God will still find a way to fill that emptiness. My situation didn’t change, but my thought process did. My soul instantly got excited.
God’s love is a love that no man can take away; no man can diminish it, or even try to replicate it.
So, don’t let today get you down, remember whose you are ultimately. Valentine’s Day is only one day out of the year, God shows us every day out of the year. God gives the best love, He’s consistent, He always gives, He loves us through all of our mess, and most importantly, He showed us in the most sacrificial way; He died on the cross for us.
Now if dying for someone isn’t love; I don’t know what else is.
Don’t fall for the man-made trap. Know that you are loved, whether you get a Valentine’s Day gift, a card, chocolates, flowers, teddy bears etc. These are disposable, but the Love that God has for you can NEVER be replaced or duplicated.
I know this sounds corny and typical, but one day your spiritual love and your earthly love will fall together and give you unspeakable joy! Meditate on these scriptures below and remember that… YOU … ARE … LOVED… ALWAYS!
Gal 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
1 John 3:1 “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.”
John 16:33 “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
So, what’s love got to do with it?! That agape love has everything to do with it! Keep your hearts to God, and not to man!
