To be quite honest, I didn’t know what I was going to write about this week. Nothing would come to mind, and I kept asking God “what do you want me to write about?” All I heard was silence. I don’t just write to just fill up a sheet of paper. My whole purpose of writing is to touch the hearts of people in the season that they are in or give them practical tools and knowledge to help them in future seasons. Either way, I always like to ask God what He wants me to write about.
This week, He came pretty close, it’s the night before the blog comes out, and I had no idea what He wanted me to write about until I opened up a blank document and the Lord said: “share with them what you’ve been learning.”
So, here you have it, you ready?! I’ve been learning about “GOALS!”
Definition of goal:
- the terminal point of a race
- the end toward which effort is directed
- the score resulting from such an act
As you see here, a goal always has a starting point and an ending point. Now, whether you reach the end of the goal is completely up to you!
There’s no coincidence that I started my new position at the beginning of the year. The training and the material I am learning is going to not only help me not only in my workplace but in life.
On my second day of training, one of my managers told me to write down 5 goals that I want to accomplish this year. These goals didn’t have to be work-related, they just needed to be 5 things that I wanted to accomplish this year. After I was done writing them down, she told me to tape them to my computer, so that I could see them every day. Every time I look at them, they remind me that I got business to take care of.
At first, I just wrote whatever came to mind down. But, as I went home that night, the Lord started to remind me of things I said I wanted to do. So, the next day I got in, I made a new list. I stare at this list every day, I even decided to write my list down on my prayer board, so that I can see every day and never forget.
I’m currently reading a book that is supposed to help with my success in life. In this book, it talks about people that are successful, have clear goals set and do whatever it takes to accomplish them. Now, it also states that a lot of people will start, but never finish. It says that if you want to set yourself apart; be a goal setter and a goal achiever.
I want to challenge you to write down 5 goals that you want to complete this year. It doesn’t matter if its something big or something small, whatever your heart wants to accomplish this year; write it down.
After you have it written down, put it somewhere that you can see it every day, maybe even make a few lists and put one at work, at home, in your book bag, or your wallet. Wherever you decided, make sure that you’re putting it somewhere to remind you daily.
Another trait of a successful person is that they imagine that they are accomplishing their goals. They can already see themselves operating in and overcoming the obstacles to get it done. Now, this is all secular knowledge I have been learning.
Let’s tie it into some scriptures…
Habakkuk 2:2 “And the Lord answered me: write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” We must write it down so that we never forget it.
Romans 4:17 “… and calleth those things which be not as though they were…” We must think it and speak it into existence.
When we are constantly reminded of our goals, it makes us accountable. Now, it’s totally up to you if you accomplish your goals or not. It’s your ambition, your determination, your perseverance that is going to give you the strength to keep it pushing, even when life says “give up!”
Don’t give up on your goals. If you haven’t started; start now! Let’s check back at the end of the year and see how many we have been able to cross off. And, if you cross something off, add another goal. Keep the rotation going.
The more you make goal setting a habit, the more success you will see coming your way. If you get off track, get right back on track, just don’t give up!
Let’s make 2018 a year of goal setting and a year of goal accomplishing.
Amen! Tonight our pastor preached on “knowing your purpose” and many people will never be able to answer this question and will go through life..working to die, so to speak.
Setting goals is definitely the beginning to reaching a purpose, something bigger than just yourself. By you “doing your thing”, going out there an accomplishing, you are apart of such a bigger picture/purpose/mission!
