Will you be my girlfriend?

I decided to share some special moments of my relationship with my now fiancé. I’ve always been transparent with my life, so why not continue this transparency with my followers in who I love dearly. This is a special time in my life and I want you to be a part of it as well. Okay, here we go…

Since we have a long distance relationship, a lot of our time together is on FaceTime. I remember the exact day, I had just got off work and was headed to church. We got into a discussion about being single and although we were very serious with each other and not talking to anyone else, I told him I was still single because I wasn’t in a committed relationship.

Let me rewind a bit. His stance had always been that he didn’t want to ask me to be his girlfriend over the phone. This was something that he wanted to do in person. Okay, lets fast forward. We were in this discussion and I could tell that it bothered him. I asked him “are you mad?” He said “no!” I could tell something was wrong because he went completely silent on me, which is not typical of him; he likes to talk!

All of a sudden, I catch myself at a red light, gazing into space, and I hear “will you be my girlfriend?” I’m caught off guard because I wasn’t expecting it, so I get nervous, and start smiling and laughing. A little inside note about me, when I’m nervous, I laugh and smile all at the same time. So, I’m laughing and being awkward with no response yet and after what seemed to be 2 long minutes, I finally “yes!”

He later admitted that he couldn’t wait to ask me until we got in person because he couldn’t allow someone else to come in and try and take me from him. This wouldn’t have happened, but it all worked out in my favor!

A few weeks later I’m back home in Las Vegas. He is meeting me there to spend time with me and meet my family. I had a family dinner planned for where he would be able to meet the rest of my family.

This particular day we’re at my parent’s house and I’m getting ready for the dinner. He’s hanging out in the living room with his best friend and my parents. I had just finished getting ready and my dad calls me into the living room. I come out, and I see Chris (my then boyfriend) holding a sign up and I get nervous and awkward all over again.

He made a sign, gave me a heart, and said to hang it on my answer. The sign said, “Will you be my…” But, all the answers said yes. There wasn’t a no, or maybe. I had no option. He said, he didn’t give me an option, because I was already his girlfriend.

The sign he made, had some of the scriptures that we hold for our relationship and terms of endearment on it. I was so shocked, but it made me love him even more that he would take the time out to make this sign for me all because he wanted to be able to make it official and ask me in person to be his girlfriend.
